Juan is a media expert serving as a games based learning specialist at the Online Leadership Program at Global Kids, a nonprofit educational organization for global learning and youth development. He has been developing programs for youth and middle school children and incorporating the use of a wide variety of digital media, such as video games, virtual worlds, and social media, to give students a voice about global issues that matter to them. Prior to joining Global Kids, Mr. Rubio worked with other educational institutions implementing games in public schools in New York City. He has a Master’s degree in Media Studies from the New School University and studied film at Howard University School of Communications in Washington D.C. Mr. Rubio has also developed professional development curriculum in new media for library staff and teachers. Originally from Honduras, he is fluent in Spanish.

Kori is a principal researcher with Microsoft Research and manager of the neXus group. The goal of her research is to explore alternative computing environments to support natural, seamless collaborative interactions, for both work and play. This includes face-to-face as well as distributed computing environments. She has studied children’s collaborative use of technology off and on for the past seventeen years. Prior to joining Microsoft she was a professor in Canada for 10 years at both Simon Fraser University and Dalhousie University. She has previously co-organized several workshops including: Workshop on Methodology for Evaluating Collaboration Behaviour in Co-Located Environments (CSCW 2004), Collaboration with Interactive Walls and Tables (UbiComp 2002), Shared Environments to Support Face-to-Face Collaboration (CSCW 2000), and New Frontiers in Telepresence (CSCW 2010).

Anna is an industry and research fellow at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop where she supports their efforts in areas such as “Games and Learning” and “Learning Together.” Prior to joining the Center, she completed a Master’s degree at Stanford’s Learning, Design and Technology program. At Stanford, her work focused on User Experience Research and Design, educational Tangible User Interfaces, and socio-emotional learning for children with autism spectrum disorders. During her time at Stanford, Anna also worked for Intel as a User Experience Specialist in the PC Experience Planning Group where she focused on design in education. She has previously worked for IBM in the Global Business Services sector as a strategy consultant after graduating from Carnegie Mellon in Business and Human-Computer Interaction.

Jessicis a program manager for Hear Me, a project of Carnegie Mellon University’s CREATE Lab (Community Robotics, Education and Technology Empowerment), and a self-proclaimed education enthusiast.  At Hear Me, Jessica guides students and their organizations to identify social and educational issues where they would like to see change. She facilitates story creation and the creative sharing of students’ stories using technology and media.  Her favorite projects include leading student interns to create an audio piece on the experience of growing up with an incarcerated parent and co-producing a traveling art exhibit featuring audio recordings of high school students discussing specific education reforms they want to see in their district.  Prior to joining Hear Me, Jessica earned her M.A. in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh and her B.A. from the College of Wooster in English.
